At Delph Side, we use White Rose Maths to structure our maths teaching. Maths mastery is a teaching and learning approach that aims for pupils to develop deep understanding of maths rather than being able to memorise key procedures or resort to rote learning. We aim is to build maths confidence and remove barriers that may have historically been evident for some children in their maths lessons. Lessons follow a very 'back and forth' exchange between teachers and pupils to ensure that concepts are mastered. A CPA (Concrete, Pictorial and Abstract) approach is used to help embed learning and provide something the children can draw upon when applying to reasoning and problem solving.
It is our aim to ensure that all learners become fluent and competent in the fundamentals of mathematics and are able to apply these to reasoning and problem solving. As learners progress through the school they will become increasingly confident mathematicians.
