The Hangout opened in January 2022 as part of the Lancashire SEND Sufficiency Strategy, this is essentially an SEN Unit within the mainstream setting. There are 8 places in The Hangout which are allocated via the local authority in consultation with school. Places in The Hangout are for children with a primary need of social communication and interaction difficulties including autistic spectrum condition. Children who are allocated a place in The Hangout via the local authority must have an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and the authority must also have agreed that ‘Specialist Provision’ is required to meet the needs of the child and that their needs can not be met in a mainstream classroom.
