Today the children looked closely at the history around Guy Fawkes, who he was and what did he do. We became Crime Scene Investigators looking at the events and people involved. We used evidence to support our claims such as his signature before and after torture, his involvement in the crime and the letter that was sent to Parliament the day before. The children really enjoyed learning about the history and the reason we celebrate Bonfire Night every year.
After that we looked at the tradition of 'Fireworks', looking at the size and shapes. Following this, we looked at the artist Andy Goldsworthy and the work he creates using the nature around him. The children looked at the fireworks abstractly and went on a walk around our playground, collecting leaves of all shapes, sizes and colours. They had a great time creating nature art and using the leaves in a different way.
