This week the children have enjoyed reading Dear Zoo. We looked at maps of the world and used the internet to find out where the animals originated. The children did an excellent job of remembering not only where they live, but where each animal from the story originated from. They placed each of  the animals onto a map. They then helped the zoo keeper to feed the animals, they mixed some animal food together and had to figure out based on size, which pot of food to give to each of the animals. We spoke about the capacity of each bucket and had very interesting debates about which sized scoop we should use to fill each bucket. The children realised that by using a smaller scoop it took alot longer to fill up the big bucket. They worked together amazingly well and swapped buckets and scoops to be more effective in helping the zoo keeper to feed the hungry animals.
