Happy New Year! Year 1 kicked of the first school day in 2023 sharing all their news from over the Christmas holidays. Everybody was keen to share what they had been doing and the special memories they have made over the past few weeks. This afternoon, we #enjoyed a new Jigsaw game that Jigsaw Jack had left for us called ‘Pass the Silence’. Jigsaw Jack set the class the goal of passing musical instruments all around the circle without making a sound. I asked the children to suggest ideas that would make this possible. Could they work together to achieve this goal? We decided we would need to complete the task slowly and gently, with some children suggesting that we hold the different musical instruments in a different way. Impressive team work!

Miss Kinsella handed each child a success coin. Each success coin had something unique wrote on the back that they were successful at. The children talked about how they felt proud using the sentence “I feel proud that I can…” and talked to their peers how they achieved their success. Back at their tables, each child decorated their own treasure chest to place their success coin in. Miss Kinsella reminded them that these treasure chests will be special because they will store children’s successes.
