This term we are learning about everyday materials. Today, we began our lesson talking about the different properties of materials before focusing on stretchiness. We watched a video of the world’s strongest trampoline and discussed what changes were made to make the trampoline stronger. Why have they used that material? What happens when you jump on a trampoline? What can you see holding the fabric up on the trampoline? How is this trampoline different to one you may have in your garden? The children discussed how the material and springs on the trampoline stretch with the weight of an object or person bouncing on top.
As a class we conducted two investigations “Is the distance a rubber band travels affected by how far you stretch it?” and “How stretchy are some of the everyday materials we use in school?”
