The children have been learning how to represent 4 & 5 and 1 more/1 more less. They arranged the stones into different ways such as 2&2 and 3&1 to represent 4. They then made birthday cakes and used the candles to represent how old each of Mrs Brady's friends were using their birthday cards. The next day, the children spotted an animal at each bus stop. Mrs Brady was the bus driver and the children had to find out how many animals were on her bus, the noticed she only had one animal. As Mrs Brady drove around, she stopped at each bus stop, the children said '1 more animal is getting on, now we have 2 animals. They continued to see the one more pattern as each animal was getting onto the bus. They then sang '5 little men in a flying saucer', every time one man flew away, the children had to represent 1 less on their finger.
