This week Reception have been learning all about Winter. We looked at which animals migrate and hibernate during the winter time, this led to a discussion about how sea animals keep warm. We discussed that animals such as Whales have a layer of fat called blubber. We decided to do an experiment to see how it works. We placed one hand in the icy cold waters with no protection, then placed our other hand in the ice-cold water protected by blubber (lard). We discovered that we were able to keep our hand in the icy water a lot longer when it was protected by the blubber.
