It has been a busy week in Year 2 with 2 more art lessons linked to our work in buildings. We learnt how to make a print of our drawings by making a foam print. We loved seeing our drawings as a print.

We are really enjoying our different reading activities in Year 2 during Guided Reading. Groups enjoy reading and even had a go at following instructions from their Guided Reading books. We also enjoy reading comprehension and working out which words are real and nonsense. 

Year 2 started their new art topic today by experimenting with how to draw narrow and broad lines and use tone, using drawing pencils and charcoal. They then looked at buildings in Skemersdale and London and had a go at drawing them.

Year 2 children spend the afternoon revisiting their walk from yesterday. We talked about the different human and physical features that we spotted on the way. We looked at our route again on a map and then had a go at making our own maps of the route. Finally we found Delph Side on Google Earth…

Year 2 visited our Victory Garden today to place their poppy stones round our Cenotaph and remember the people who had fought in the wars. They also left some of their messages - "Lest we Forget" "We will remember them"

Year 2 have been learning about Remembrance and why we wear poppies. They enjoyed experimenting with drawing poppies before then painting their design onto a pebble to place in our Victory Garden. They wrote some lovely thoughtful messages to go alongside them.

Year 2 really enjoyed their World War 2 themed PE lesson to celebrate the start of World War 2 week.

Year 2 enjoyed their first Geography lesson as they looked at different maps and what they wer for. We then talked about why we have a compass and listened to a song to help us learn our directions - North, South East and West. We then had to help the pirate move around the map by giving him…

Year 2 have really enjoyed our work during Black History month. This week we listened to reggae music by Bob Marley. We also looked at Lilian Bader and Trevor McDonald. We found out about their lives and why they were famous.

We had to carry out an experiment to investigate which materials were the most absorbent. We learnt that absorbent means soaks up water easily and had to make our predictions before testing different materials.
