Class of 2028

The Queen's Platinum Jubilee preparations are well underway in Reception.

Today, they have had the royal pleasure of evolving into The Kings and Queens of Delph Side Reception class.

"Run, run as fast as you can, you can't catch me I'm the Gingerbread...DUCK!"

Reception put their own little twist on the traditional tale and were inspired to create gingerbread ducklings just like the 4 they'd so caringly looked after for a whole week. 

Compliments flooded in with one…

Reception class loved weighing the ducks on the scales using cubes. We counted how many cubes it took for the ducks to balance on the scales. 
 

We also helped to clean the ducks out and bath them in the sink. 

Reception were set a challenge today to make a platform for the ducklings to sit on in their little pool. Reception discussed what materials would be the best. They wondered if their models would sink or float. They worked together to build their structures and were very proud when the ducklings…

Reception are so excited! The duck eggs arrived and one hatched during the night with the rest following thick and fast.

Their reactions were priceless. Some were excited, some were a little unsure but all showed how much they cared by handling them delicately, stroking them and talking so…

Reception are having hands-on experiences to deepen their understanding of the life cycle of butterflies.  They have been observing them closely and having lots of conversations about what they think the next stage of the caterpillars' development will be.

Reception have been reading the story of Hansel and Gretel. They have been programming the Bee-Bots to follow a route through the woods to the Witch's cottage. At the end of the day, they took a handful of bread crumbs to leave a trail from school to home. I wonder if it will still be there for…

Reception have been looking after their mental health today by taking part in Yoga. Their self esteem has been boosted, anxieties have been managed and they have become stronger both in body and mind.

Reception loved tracing around the shadows. Tomorrow, they're going to explore shadow tracing at different times of the day to observe changes.

During their RE lesson, Reception have been learning all about being truthful. 

They listened to one of Aesop's Fables, The Boy Who Cried Wolf and learned that sometimes, people refuse to believe a liar even when then are telling the truth.

Reception then played a game of 'Chinese Whispers'…

Reception went straight into creative mode on their first day of the brand new summer term today. 

They explored various textures as they made marks using resources such as cocoa powder, lentils, soil, porridge oats and instant coffee.  They mixed them with PVA glue and coloured powder paint…

As we're coming to the end of this term, I just had to show you our wonderful Reception class, every single one of them.  Just them.

They have worked their socks off and made so much progress since all that time ago back in September.  I am so very, very proud and I can't wait to see what the…
